Skate Boarding and the Arts

This is a fantastic documentary on the linkage between skate boarding and the arts. Its a shame that the Southbank is going the opposite way.
News Just In... Southbanks saved, or at least thats the general rumour.

Pewsey Art Community
Since the idea of combining the skatepark with an extended art programme has been floated, we have been having contributions from all over.

The very best example of how a skate facility can be part of an integrated arts community is seen here but in essence, skateboarding in an appropriate setting gives young people a way into art that otherwise would not exist.

Skateboarders are likely to be involved in photography, videography, music and design.  Many skateboarders go onto start production companies, T-shirt companies or other creative pursuits.  Many do entrepeneurial things such as running a skate park or a shop.

Pewsey's young people deserve the chance to express themselves and we think this park is another way that could be done.

Imagine a skate park with an ampitheatre.  The skate park itself has been decorated in an urban style by the skaters themeselves, but around the edge of the park is art work produced by a wide range of people from the local primary school to the professional artist.

On a nice summer evening there is a performance in the ampitheatre and then people wander around the park looking at the art work and watching the skaters.

The art community themselves are very supportive of this idea and we look forward to blending the two communities together.
