Pewsey Skate Facilities Now

updated 6th April 2008

The situation got worse.  The ramps are now gone!

There are a lots of young people in Pewsey who skate.

Contrary to what every body believes there are no skate facilities in the village.  There used to be but they have not been maintained and have all been withdrawn as dangerous. Building wooden ramps and leaving them outside is not a great idea.  What we need is concrete.

The Shak did offer some sessions but they have stopped because the skating was destroying the sports hall.  Not our fault!

Where-ever we skate at the moment, somebody complains. The Coop car park, the Beauvorie Car Park, Broomcroft Road or the car park behind Marshalls Bakery.

We always post look outs and try to avoid other people and cars (funnily enough we do not want to be run down) but the chances of a collision between a skater and an older person or a car is stll high.

Pewsey police have now taken to ‘moving us on.’

This is resulting in:

.. a waste of limited police resources. They surely have better things to do?..

..alienation of the young people from the police. They hassle skaters all the time.  Just think how you felt last time the police pulled you over in your car when you had not done anything wrong.  That happens to us every day and every night...

..we just move to the next skating location on our list..

..If moved on from all the locations in one weekend, the skaters simply look for a more remote, often more dangerous place to skate..

..If stopped entirely we have no choice but to ‘hang out’ somewhere resulting in accusations of anti social behaviour and general disorder.
